Hedland Senior High School (SHS), located in the Pilbara, is an Independent Public School catering for students from Year 7 to Year 12. The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant in the Success Program, you will work with students to assist teachers in delivering planned education programs focused on literacy, numeracy, social emotional learning and work readiness skills, while supporting provision of a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will perform tasks that require judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher and Head of Learning Area. Through previous experience, you will ideally display the delivery of planned education programs and contribute to the evaluation process of educational outcomes.

The successful applicant should be a caring, proactive, and responsive individual who possess good written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group-based programs. You will work in an environment committed to whole school approaches; self-reflection and continuous self-improvement; working collaboratively with the classroom teacher, Head of Learning Area and other Success Program staff in delivering an inspiring and quality educational experience.

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

  1. Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
  3. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
  4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
